Under Investigation: China and the Virus (2021)
The world was told the Coronavirus leaped from animals to humans at a market in China – but many scientists now fear it leaked from a lab. Experts reveal the new research techniques that put us all at risk.
Scientists are seen working inside the Wuhan lab in February 2017. The laboratory, known for its expertise in studying viruses, is now thought a possible source for the COVID-19 outbreak - China, meanwhile, insists that the virus simply mutated and passed naturally from animals to humans

China warns Biden-ordered probe into Wuhan lab leak theory could be America's 'Waterloo' and compares new COVID investigation to search for WMDs in Iraq

June 1 - ...Even Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the WHO, said that the visit was inconclusive, adding that 'all hypotheses are open' and warranted future study.

The authors, however, attacked on Sunday 'the strong and tyrannical demand that the WHO should serve the political interests of the US.'

They added: 'This is playing political games to hijack science.'

China accused scientists who give the 'lab leak' theory credibility of 'trimming their sails according to the political circumstances'.

'The presumption of guilt imposed by the US against the Wuhan Institute of Virology has gone in opposite directions with the conventional cognition and normal traceability methods of the scientific community,' they said.

The op ed pointed out that the U.S. intelligence community was catastrophically wrong on the issue of WMD in the early 2000s, insisting that the country's leaders 'have lost their credibility at the very beginning of this race'.

'It will be difficult for the US to do what it did 18 years ago when Washington fabricated evidence of Iraq possessing WMDs to fool the international community,' they write.

'So far, the US intelligence agencies can ask only the US media to help spread those rumors anonymously because they do not have any real proof that can be shared with the whole world. This traditional strategy of a frame-up is powerless in today's environment...     quoted from

Remarks by President Biden at the 153rd National Memorial Day Observance

May 31, 2021 • Speeches and RemarksArlington National Cemetery
Arlington, Virginia

THE PRESIDENT:  Madam Vice President, Secretary Austin, Secretary McDonough, General Milley, Gold Star families, my fellow Americans — we’re gathered at this sacred place in this solemn hour to engage in the most fundamental of undertakings: the rite of remembrance.

We remember those who gave their all in the service of America, in the service of freedom, in the service of justice.  We remember their sacrifice, their valor, and their grace.  We remember their smiles; their loves; their laughter; their essential, vibrant, and transcendent humanity.

For while we stand amid monuments of stone, we must never forget that each of these markers, for those known and unknown, here at Arlington and far beyond represent a precious life: a son, a daughter, a mother, a spouse, a brother, a sister, a friend, a neighbor.

To those who mourn a loved one today: Jill and I have some idea how you’re feeling.  Our losses are not the same, but that black hole you feel in your chest — as if it’s going to suck you into it — we get.

I know the incredible pride you felt seeing your loved one wear the uniform of our country, and the pride they felt wearing it.

Our son Beau’s service in the Delaware Army National Guard unit, the year he spent deployed in Iraq, was one of the things that he was most proud of in life.

Yesterday marked the anniversary of his death.  And it’s a hard time — a hard time of year for me and our family, just like it is for so many of you.  It can hurt to remember, but the hurt is how we feel and how we heal...     more

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen has made no apology for accepting Chinese investment.
Cambodia, China’s closest ally in south-east Asia, looks to ‘reset ties’ with US

June 1 - Cambodia has indicated a desire to shift out of the shadow of Chinese patronage and pursue a closer relationship with the United States amid a landmark visit to Phnom Penh by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

Increasingly viewed as a vassal of China in its pursuit of regional hegemony, there are signs emerging of discomfort from within the one-party south-east Asian nation about its over-dependence on the superpower.

The visit of Sherman, scheduled for Tuesday, coincided with a column from Cambodia’s state-owned news agency highlighted on social media by Prime Minister Hun Sen. It said it was “time for the US and Cambodia, in China’s shadow, to reset ties”...     more
