Donald Trump hails 'dawn of a new Middle East' as leaders of Israel, UAE and Bahrain sign peace deal at the White House and says he believes Saudi Arabia will ALSO recognize Israel

Sep. 16 - President Donald Trump on Tuesday hailed the 'dawn of a new Middle East' when he presided over the signing of historic diplomatic deals between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in a deal designed to boost his reputation as a statesman
.
'We're here this afternoon to change the course of history. After decades of division and conflict we mark up the dawn of a new Middle East. Thanks to the great courage of the leaders of these three countries. We take a major stride toward a future in which people of all faiths and backgrounds live together in peace and prosperity,' Trump said in his remarks.

The president said more nations will follow suit in signing the accord that normalizes relations between the Jewish state and the Arab nations. Later in the day, as he left the White House to travel to Philadelphia, he said he believed Saudi Arabia would too.

'These agreements prove that the nations of the region are breaking free from the failed approaches of the past. Today signing sets history on a new course. And there will be other countries very very soon, that will follow these great leaders,' the president said.

Trump emphasized the historic nature of the agreement.

'Today the world sees that they're choosing cooperation over conflict. Friendship over emnity, prosperity over poverty, and hope over despair. They are choosing a future in which Arabs and Israelis Muslims, Jews and Christians could live together pray together, and dream together side by side in harmony community and peace,' he said.

Earlier he described it as: 'This is peace in the Middle East without blood all over the sand.'     more

Two Gulf nations recognized Israel at the White House. Here's what's in it for all sides

Sep. 15 - Jerusalem (CNN)President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday joined the foreign ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain at the White House to mark historic normalization agreements between Israel and the two Arab countries.

Trump hailed the occasion, claiming the signing of the Abraham Accords will "change the course of history," and marks "the dawn of a new Middle East."

"Together these agreements will serve as the foundation for a comprehensive peace across the entire region, something which nobody thought was possible, certainly not in this day and age," Trump said. "These agreements prove that the nations of the region are breaking free from failed approaches of the past. Today's signing sets history on a new course and there will be other countries very very soon that will follow these great leaders."Netanyahu described the day as a "pivot of history, a new dawn of peace."

The last time such a ceremony took place in Washington was in 1994, when President Bill Clinton looked on as Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Jordanian King Hussein signed a declaration that paved the way for a peace deal months later.

For Trump, the timing was crucial. Less than two months before an election in which he trails in the polls, normalization agreements between Israel, the UAE, and Bahrain are major foreign policy achievements, even if the region was gradually moving towards these relationships regardless of who occupied the White House.     source

Donald Trump defies coronavirus rules as ‘peaceful protest’ rallies grow
Donald Trump’s campaign insisted that it takes appropriate health precautions, including handing out masks and hand sanitizer and checking the temperatures of rallygoers.

Sep. 15 - President Donald Trump is running as the “law and order” candidate. But that hasn’t stopped him and his campaign from openly defying state emergency orders and flouting his own administration’s coronavirus guidelines as he holds ever-growing rallies in battleground states.

Democratic governors and local leaders have urged the president to reconsider the events, warning that he’s putting lives at risk. But they have largely not tried to block the gatherings of thousands of people, which Trump and his team deem “peaceful protests” protected by the First Amendment.

“If you can join tens of thousands of people protesting in the streets, gamble in a casino, or burn down small businesses in riots, you can gather peacefully under the 1st Amendment to hear from the President of the United States,” Tim Murtaugh, a Trump campaign spokesperson, said in a statement.

Trump’s refusal to abide by health guidelines — even those crafted by his own administration — underscores the extent to which he believes projecting an image of normalcy is vital to winning in November, even as the country approaches 200,000 deaths from Covid-19...     more

Trump courts Hispanic voters in Las Vegas with blistering attack on Biden

Sep. 13 - President Trump on Sunday made his case to Hispanic voters at a “Latinos for Trump” roundtable in Las Vegas — often at the expense of his Democratic challenger.

“While Joe Biden failed Hispanic-Americans, I’ve delivered for Hispanic-Americans more than any other president,” Trump said. “I’m fighting for you every single day, and you understand that better than anybody.”

Touting his “unwavering devotion” to the Latino community, Trump specifically cited his administration’s cuts of taxes and regulations, and the speed with which the economy has bounced back following the worst of the coronavirus shutdown.

But Trump also picked up where he left off at a Saturday night rally in Reno, Nev., slamming the record of former Vice President Biden.

“Joe Biden has spent 47 years betrayed the Hispanic-American community totally, sending their jobs to China, raising taxes on their family and small businesses, making their communities less safe, attacking their values and trapping their children in failing government schools,” Trump charged.

“He’s in his basement right now and he’s saying, ‘What do I do?'” ...  and    more

President Trump Hosts "Latinos for Trump" Roundtable in Las Vegas
President Trump hosted a ‘Latinos for Trump’ campaign roundtable at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, a property owned by Phil Ruffin, a business partner of the Trump Organization. At the top of the event, President Trump talked about some of his administration’s first-term actions aimed at lowering Latino unemployment. Then the participants, most of them small business owners in the Las Vegas area, talked about why they were supporting President Trump’s campaign for reelection. The roundtable was part of a multi-state swing through Western states, including Nevada, California, and Arizona.

Joe Biden will be vilified more and more by the Trump campaign as the election approaches. But this vilification is likely to be confined to inside the right-wing echo chamber.

Donald Trump’s ‘Fatal Flaw’ Might Have Been Exposed By Bob Woodward Interviews, Columnist Says

Sep. 13 - In a Saturday piece for Salon, columnist Lucian K. Truscott IV argued that Bob Woodward’s interviews from his forthcoming book, Rage, might have exposed Donald Trump’s “fatal flaw.” In particular, the writer noted the reports that the president was briefed by national security adviser Robert O’Brien on Jan. 28 about the danger and severity of the coronavirus.

Instead of telling Americans and working to unite them, Truscott noted that the president chose instead to play down the severity of the virus. The writer argued that this choice reveals Trump’s weakness as a lack of confidence in himself and his ability to influence others without money.
“He doesn’t believe in himself, so he has never believed in his ability to influence others,” the columnist wrote.

“Donald Trump had no understanding of what I call the exercise of power in the absence of money. This is power at its most absolute, the power to motivate soldiers to risk their lives in combat, the power to motivate doctors and nurses to risk their lives treating patients with deadly communicable diseases, the power that motivates someone to give his or her life for another”...

U.S. 'deeply concerned' about Hong Kong activists held in China: Pompeo

Sep. 12, WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday the United States is deeply concerned about 12 Hong Kong democracy activists being held in China’s Guangdong province, saying they have been denied access to lawyers and local authorities have not provided information on their welfare or the charges against them.

The United States questions the Hong Kong leadership’s commitments to protecting citizens’ rights, Pompeo said in a statement. The activists were arrested about two weeks ago off the coast of Hong Kong, according to the statement.

At the end of August the provincial Coast Guard Bureau said in a post on its social media site that it had arrested at least 10 people after intercepting a boat off the cost of the southern province of Guangdong. Hong Kong media, citing unidentified sources, said the 12 were headed to Taiwan to apply for political asylum.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam said earlier this week that if they “were arrested for breaching mainland offences then they have to be dealt with according to the mainland laws.”

“We question Chief Executive Lam’s stated commitment to protecting the rights of Hong Kong residents, and call on authorities to ensure due process,” Pompeo said....     more

President Trump Remarks in Freeland, Michigan
During a campaign appearance in Freeland, Michigan, President Trump touts his domestic and foreign policy accomplishments, goes after Joe Biden’s record, and criticizes Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward, calling him a “whackjob.”

President Donald Trump says he’s running for reelection to ‘keep jobs in Michigan’

Sep. 10 - FREELAND, MI -- President Donald Trump railed against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s record on the economy and promised a quick recovery while campaigning in Michigan on Thursday.
Trump claimed he “saved the U.S. auto industry,” and touted his rewrite of the North American Free Trade Agreement, claiming Biden allowed jobs to leave the country. Biden just one day prior visited Michigan himself to unveil his plan to boost job growth. Both candidates visited counties Trump flipped in 2016, playing a key role in helping him become the first Republican to win Michigan in nearly three decades.

“From Grand Rapids to Saginaw, from Kalamazoo to Mackinac and from Flint to right here in Freeland ... This is the state where tough, strong, determined workers made America into the greatest and most powerful nation in the history of the world.” Trump said toward the end of his 1-hour-and-20 minute speech.
Biden and his supporters have highlighted his work to support Michigan during the 2009 bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, and to support Detroit during its bankruptcy. Michigan Democrats have often said Biden “saved” the auto industry...     more

If Woodward is right, Trump let Americans die for political gains

Sep. 11 - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration has been uniquely fraught with scandal. As expected, there's been dozens of books published about his presidency. Through them, we've learned (allegedly) that Trump didn't want nor expect his presidential campaign to win, that he went to the movies while his brother died alone in a hospital and that the White House has "no coherent basis, no strategy, no philosophy." The president also concealed the danger of the coronavirus from the public, according to journalist Bob Woodward's upcoming book, "Rage."

Woodward pieces together a very disturbing timeline of events in regards to Trump's private attitude toward the spread of the coronavirus. They detail exactly how much the presidency was aware of the dangers while publicly downplaying it.

"I wanted to always play it down," Trump allegedly told Woodward on March 19, adding "I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic." As the president began urging states to reopen in April, he had allegedly told Woodward "it's so easily transmissible, you wouldn't even believe it."

And most disturbingly, while the president repeatedly said that children are "almost immune" when discussing his desire for schools to reopen, he privately told Woodward on one occasion that "just today and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It's not just old, older. Young people too – plenty of young people."...     more
