Trump Pulls Closer to Biden After RNC
Post-convention poll shows Trump almost halved national deficit against the Democratic nominee

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Trump 50% to 44% among likely voters following the Republican National Convention vs. a lead of 52% to 42% before it began.

Trump cut into Biden’s lead among suburbanites and grew his support among white voters, though he worsened his standing with voters of color.

Biden’s favorability numbers weakened while the president’s remained steady.

Aug. 29, 2020President Donald Trump needed a convention bounce — and he got one, emerging from the Republican National Convention with an improved standing against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, fueled by gains among white voters and those in the suburbs, though he still trails the former vice president nationwide.

A new Morning Consult poll conducted Friday that asked 4,035 likely voters which candidate they would pick found Biden leading Trump by 6 percentage points, 50 percent to 44 percent. It marked a 4-point improvement from his standing heading into the convention on Aug. 23, when Biden led 52 percent to 42 percent. Friday’s poll had a 2-point margin of error, compared with a 1-point margin of error for responses gathered among 4,810 likely voters on Aug. 23.   source

Trump's intel chief ends election security briefings to Hill

Aug. 30 - WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s top intelligence official has informed Congress that his office will no longer give in-person election security briefings on Capitol Hill, a move that raised concern among lawmakers Saturday about the public’s right to know about foreign interference in the upcoming presidential election.

President Donald Trump said National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe made the decision because the administration "got tired” of intelligence about election security leaking from Congress.

“They leaked the information ... and what's even worse, they leaked the wrong information and we got tired of it,” Trump told reporters while attending a briefing on Hurricane Laura in Orange, Texas. He didn't offer details to support his statement.

Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, said the idea that the national intelligence director’s office would stop briefing Congress on foreign threats to the U.S. election is “an outrage” and that written updates were “flatly insufficient.”     more

Trump greeted with ‘one-fingered salutes’ on his way to New Hampshire: ‘Too many middle fingers to count’

Aug. 29 - ...“Many of the protesters along the avenue greeted the motorcade with raised middle fingers,” it notes.

“There were far too many middle fingers to count. Several of the peope in the crowd opted to raise both of their middle fingers in a double barreled one finger salute,” it continues. “Some of the protesters waved signs. A few that were clearly legible read ‘BLM’ and ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER.’ One man’s sign that was visible from the motorcade said, ‘WHITE SILENCE = BLACK DEATH.'”     source

Donald Trump’s Motorcade Gets Icy Greeting At March On Washington: ‘Far Too Many Middle Fingers To Count’

Aug. 29 - Donald Trump’s motorcade got a very icy welcome after passing by the March on Washington on Friday, with pool reports saying he was met with a flurry of middle fingers.

Trump was leaving the White House to attend rally in New Hampshire when he passed by the demonstrations that marked the anniversary of the original March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which took place in 1963. As MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin reported on Twitter, the protesters were waving signs showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement and calling for an end to systemic racism, and did not take kindly to the brief appearance by Trump’s motorcade.

“Many of the protesters along the avenue greeted the motorcade with raised middle fingers,” the pool report noted, via Griffin. “There were far too many middle fingers to count. Several of the people in the crowd opted to raise both of their middle fingers in a double barreled one finger salute.”

Trump has been criticized for his response to the Black Lives Matter movement and the nationwide demonstrations that arose after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May and the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, this week. Critics have pointed to what they see as heavy-handed tactics, including the use of federal law enforcement officers to forcefully break up protests, including ones that had remained peaceful.     source

RNC live: Trump signals attacks on Joe Biden at final night of Republican convention
A packed house amid a pandemic

Aug. 28 - The president’s guests streamed through the White House throughout the day – none were seen wearing a mask. One guest, posing for the obligatory photo at the press secretary’s podium in the briefing room, joked as he donned a mask – then quickly removed it before the picture was snapped.
A sea of white chairs assembled on the White House South Lawn, where at least 1,000 people turned out for President Donald Trump’s nomination acceptance speech, showed a blatant disregard for social distancing – a key safety measure the president’s own health experts say is critical to containing the spread of the coronavirus. Less than half the crowd were spotted wearing masks while some donned face coverings around their necks.

Over the four-day spectacle, the Trump campaign appeared to cast aside widely accepted safety measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus despite the pandemic derailing their plans for a more traditional convention.
Earlier this week First Lady Melania Trump spoke before roughly 100 seated guests in the newly renovated Rose Garden while Vice President Mike Pence was spotted shaking hands and fist-bumping audience members, many of whom were unmasked, after his speech before a crowd at Fort McHenry...    more

US election 2020: Trump's silence on police brutality protests will be deafening for many

Aug. 25 - The police shooting of Jacob Blake was shocking.

As the Republican Party convention prepared to roll out Donald Trump's vision for America, the actual vision from Wisconsin cast an ugly, distracting shadow.

The full facts surrounding the police shooting of Mr Blake, a black man, are still to be established.

But the details already on public view were enough to prompt Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to say the seven shots fired pierced "the soul of our nation".
His call for "an immediate, full and transparent investigation" came easily to him.

From the president, it didn't come at all.
This at a time when the Trump narrative shaped by his Democratic opponents is around a lack of character, empathy and ability to lead.     more

Jacob Blake: Wisconsin black man 'will need miracle' to walk again

Aug. 26 - Jacob Blake, 29, was shot several times opening the door of his car in Kenosha.
At least one of the bullets went through his spinal cord, lawyers said.
The shooting of Mr Blake sparked protests, violent at times. The governor of Wisconsin is sending more National Guard troops to Kenosha.

As a result of the partial or complete severing of his spinal cord, Mr Blake is paralysed, with doctors unsure if he will recover the use of his legs.     more abut this story

LIVE: Trump Wins GOP Nomination to Kick Off 2020 Republican National Convention | Your World Daily
Aug 25, 2020
(Aug. 24) The Republican Party formally nominated President Donald Trump for a second term in the White House Monday, one of the first acts of a GOP convention that has been dramatically scaled down to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Trump has sought to minimize the toll of the pandemic, but its impact was evident as proceedings began in Charlotte. Instead of the thousands of people who were expected to converge on this city for a week-long extravaganza, just 336 delegates participated in a roll-call vote from a Charlotte Convention Center ballroom. The GOP convention is a crucial moment for Trump, who is trailing in national and battleground state polls and under intense pressure to turn the race around. Just 23% think the country is heading in the right direction, while 75% think it’s on the wrong path, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Many of the usual trappings of a convention were present on Monday, including signs designating each state and gift bags with Republican swag. But chairs on the ballroom floor were arranged with lots of space between them and convention organizers told participants to wear masks, though adherence to the rule was uneven.

White House rejects House bill for emergency Postal Service aid
Bill moves to Senate; McConnell has criticized legislation as part of ‘conspiracy theory’

Aug. 23. - WASHINGTON — Help for the U.S. Postal Service landed in stalemate Sunday as the White House dismissed an emergency funding bill aimed at shoring up the agency before the November elections as “going nowhere” and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged senators to act quickly.

“The public is demanding action on this now,” Pelosi said. “I can’t see how the Senate can avoid it unless they do so to their peril.”     more

Trump slams Pelosi's $25BN USPS funding vote as a 'hoax' after the Democrat told voters to 'ignore' president's mail-in ballot warnings as House prepares for rare Saturday vote
House Democrats pushed Saturday for a $25B Post Office bill aimed at curbing disruption to mail delivery

Aug. 23 - President Trump on Saturday blasted House Democrats who were prepared to pass legislation that would send $25billion in emergency funds to the US Postal Service in the run-up to the November election.

‘Representatives of the Post Office have repeatedly stated that they DO NOT NEED MONEY, and will not make changes,’ the president tweeted on Saturday.

‘This is all another HOAX by the Democrats to give 25 Billion unneeded dollars for political purposes, without talking about the Universal Mail-In Ballot Scam that they are trying to pull off in violation of everything that our Country stands for...     more

"...Trump has sought to cast early doubt on the integrity of the election, and bringing up Pelosi, who is deeply unpopular with many Republicans, appeared aimed at motivating his base to vote.

Although the speaker of the House is third in line for the presidency, it is unclear how Pelosi would assume the office in the event of a disputed election. Congress ultimately holds the power to decide which state electors to accept and resolve disputes. If no candidate wins a majority, the House selects a winner, but must choose from the top three vote-getters.

In a preview of what Republicans will argue at their own convention next week, Trump hammered at the law-and-order theme he has embraced in response to protests and unrest in many cities, including Portland, Oregon.

He said police had been weakened in 'Democrat-run' cities and cited a spike in murders in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York and Philadelphia. He urged Americans to turn back 'radical left socialists and Marxists.'
He called protesters in Portland 'crazy'."
